Kid's Club Youth Outreach

Believing the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, the Mission provides a youth outreach ministry.

This outreach is focused on elementary and junior high age children living in and around the city of South Tucson. Many of these children live in neighborhoods where exposure to excessive violence, drug use, gangs, and prostitution, is an everyday occurrence. Giving them help through education, encouragement, activities, love, and the hope of the Gospel will break the cycle of drug & alcohol addictions, violence, homelessness and despair.

Mission staff and volunteers meet with the youth every Saturday morning in a “club” setting. Each meeting begins with a nutritious snack provided by the Mission. The snack is normally followed by a time of worship and Bible study, giving the children the foundation needed to develop spiritually. Guest speakers from the community (police, fire, athletes, business men and women) present information on drug, gang, and violence prevention.

Games and sports activities provide lots of fun and positive interaction at the club meetings. Monthly field trips to museums and community events enhance their cultural development. An annual camping trip to Mt. Lemmon is the highlight of the summer activities. Many of the children in the club have never been outside of South Tucson, let alone to the mountains. Watching the excitement and enthusiasm of the children as they touch the rocks and smell the pine trees is heartwarming and rewarding.

If we can reach these precious little ones today… tomorrow can be better and brighter for them and our community.
