Curtis
Four years of misuse of pain pills coupled with use of meth had my life way off track. My priorities got all turned around. It got to the point where I was focused on me and only me. I was a very selfish person. Because of my selfishness, my wife and children suffered. I lost the woman I loved, my children, and my home. Through all my addictions, I lost the most important thing –  my dignity and my self-respect. But, thank God, Heaven has a lost and found.
God had brought me to complete brokenness. He brought me to my knees and He brought me to a place I’ll never forget on September 1, 2012 – Gospel Rescue Mission.

"The things I believed about life were simply not true."
"I came to the Gospel Rescue Mission in October 2004 only expecting to stay for a few days. I had been sober for a little over a year and working as a maintenance supervisor at some apartments here in Tucson. My roommate relapsed on crack cocaine and my boss and my co-workers were all actively using. I eventually relapsed one night and the next day I decided that I needed to do something different.

I had been struggling with addiction for more than 20 years and had never been able to string together more than 90 days of sobriety. As a result, I had a history of legal issues, had alienated a majority of my family and friends, and had experienced periods of homelessness.

In September 2004, I decided to quit my job; even though it meant I would also lose the apartment that I was living in since my job included housing. I did not want to be homeless again, but I was afraid of returning to active addiction. I remember praying to God to give me the courage to trust Him even though I didn’t know where I was going or what I would do.

Rachel has a new lease on life and her weight loss is only one indication of how far she has come in her recovery. Rachel now has a relationship with God where as she learned to believe in him and believe in herself.

Through the Genesis Program (part of the GRM Life Restoration Program), Rachel was able to see what her false beliefs were.
