When they take your children away from you, it’s agony. For you, and for your kids.
That’s the day you wake up and say, “I’ve got to change.”
Viviana knows that kind of pain – and she remembers the horrible “wake-up call,” as her children were placed in foster care for their own protection.
Her life was a long, sad litany of drugs ... one substance after another, from the time she was a little girl.
Her mother married five times, each time gravitating to an addict-husband who administered vicious beatings to her and the children. Alcohol, drugs, and violence were tragically commonplace in Viviana’s nightmare childhood.
By the age of 13, Viviana was desperate to numb the pain. She turned to pills – then to meth – and she very quickly became an addict herself.
There was only one glimmer of light in the darkness. She saw her grandmother reading a Bible, and once in a while Viviana accompanied her to church. But “God” was off in the clouds somewhere. “I never knew who He was,” she recalls.
But God wasn’t going to leave matters as they were.
Shattered by the loss of her children, Viviana turned to Gospel Rescue Mission, and asked to enroll in our women’s recovery program. Here, she was introduced to someone she remembered from years before: her heavenly Father.
“This place showed me who God is!” she says today, with a huge smile. “It’s been one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had!”
By God’s grace, with the strong financial support of caring friends like you, we were able to welcome Viviana with open arms ... bring her into our round-the-clock shelter and recovery program ... lead her to faith in Jesus Christ ... and help her start life over.
Her transformation has been nothing short of stunning. “I’m a different person from the one that walked through those double doors last May. My family sees it, and my kids see it.”
She has been sober for more than a year. She doesn’t even touch cigarettes anymore. She is clean and healthy and full of life. Her astonishing record – a complete and consistent recovery over the course of a year – inspired the authorities. She has regained full custody of her children!
Gospel Rescue Mission has “given me the tools I need to stay strong,” Viviana says today. “But even more, they’ve given me a knowledge of and a relationship with Jesus Christ. I can go to Him whenever I need help.”
This is your work ... your ministry ... as you support Gospel Rescue Mission. You are opening the door to incredible life-transformation for women and their families, by the power of God’s love at work through our proven-effective ministry strategies.
But the need is so huge, I must ask for your generous help again today.
The sad fact is, our program is maxed out, and we are turning women away every day, simply for lack of resources to help them. Even with the recent expansion of our women’s center, the demand continues to rise and outstrip our capacity. We actually have to say “no” to as many as 25 women a day who urgently need our recovery ministry.
It’s heartbreaking – but it’s happening. This is why I’m asking so boldly, and with such a sense of urgency, for your generous contribution today. Your response of Christ-like compassion today will help us say “yes” to absolutely as many women as possible.
Thank you for whatever you can give today. God bless you!
