Shelter

“If it wasn’t for Gospel Rescue Mission, I don’t know where we would’ve been. God led us here.”
– Chris, Former Guest

Our ministry is based on healthy relationships, teaching, and grace.

When guests arrive, they are welcomed and offered a nutritious meal. Our team of compassionate advocates works with guests to assess their needs and develop a plan that helps them establish stability and reclaim their lives.

Most guests come to us with several obstacles that need to be addressed for them to be successful. These might be unemployment, lack of education, mental health issues, trauma, abuse, and addiction. Learn about our Recovery Program.

Our Shelter Program is located at the H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity, a collaborative campus where over 30 social service organizations work together to holistically address mental, physical, and spiritual issues so that guests can move from homeless to wholeness. Available services include recovery, employment, and housing programs; medical, dental, and mental health care; government benefits, veterans assistance, and children’s services. Recovery

“I was able to heal. They worked with me, at my pace.”
– Deidra, Former Guest

Our faith-based recovery program helps struggling men and women uncover and address the spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental barriers that kept them lost in addiction. Being part of a community is vital for recovery, but we also feel that each person’s journey is unique and should be respected as such. Our guests meet both in groups and in one-on-one sessions with a recovery coach as we come alongside each individual and walk this journey with them, letting them know they are not alone. Our goal is for our guests to find a new beginning with lasting restoration and peace so they can lead fulfilling, productive, and self-sufficient lives.

Employment

“I now get to work with a lot of women similar to me through a nonprofit that helps others like me find employment.”
– Peggy, Former Guest

Successful steady employment is a vital step in moving from homeless to wholeness. Our advocates work with our guests to help them develop a plan that will guide them on the path to self-sufficiencyto overcome barriers to transformation and to become part of the workforce. This might include getting a high school diploma, taking classes in life skills development or computer literacy, and learning how to write a resume and to interview.

Housing

“I went from being homeless and not being able to provide for even myself to providing for others.”
– Wes, Former Guest, Current Employee

Our ultimate goal is for our guests to become self-sufficient. The last step in that process is to find permanent housing, and we connect our guests to a wide range of solutions designed to get them there—needs assessments, financial planning, bus passes, and appointments with housing providers and agencies that help with utilities, rent assistance, and more. We also provide furniture and other household items through our Donation Center so our guests can transition to independent living as smooth as possible.

Outreach

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
– Luke 6:38

For those who live paycheck to paycheck, all it might take is a reduction in hours, loss of a job, or issues with transportation for a tough situation to become dire. Our goal is to provide stabilizing resources for those living on the brink of homelessness.

We are blessed to receive donations from the community and pass them on to those in need at no cost to them. We gladly accept unopened non-perishable food products, clothing, hygiene products, baby products, dishware, and other kitchen items, furniture (including complete bed sets), appliances (including flat-screen TVs), other household items, vehicles, and more! We cannot accept particle board furniture, single mattresses, box TVs, or any items that are broken, stained, or otherwise not in good condition.
