A New Beginning: How Wade Found Hope at GRM

Wade
Recovery Guest
Pride kept him from asking for help. He worked hard, started a family, and even owned a home—but nothing filled the emptiness inside. “Alcohol became my master for a long time,” Wade shared. Eventually, his addiction cost him everything, including his family. His drinking grew so severe that he suffered a seizure in a park and fell into a coma for eight days. His mother found him just in time. Even then, Wade believed he could overcome addiction on his own—but he continued to relapse.
Everything changed when Wade came to Gospel Rescue Mission. At first, he was simply looking for a bed and a meal. But God had much more in store. “The people at GRM showed me real love and grace,” Wade said. “They didn’t judge me. They welcomed me and shared the gospel.”
One day during chapel, Wade finally let go of his pride and cried out to Jesus. “I didn’t have to fix myself before coming to God—I just had to come as I was.” That moment marked a true turning point.
Today, Wade has completed GRM’s Genesis recovery program, is preparing for work, and is rebuilding relationships with his mom and daughter. His advice to others is simple but powerful: “Don’t take God’s grace for granted. Stay humble, be willing to learn, and show love like Jesus did.”
GRM didn’t just give Wade a place to stay—it gave him hope, restored his faith, and offered a new beginning. Now, Wade is eager to share that same hope with everyone he meets.
