A Rescue Mission

In Luke 15:4–7, Jesus told a parable about a man who had one hundred sheep and lost one of them. He asked the people, if one of the sheep were lost, wouldn’t the shepherd leave the ninety-nine and go after the one that was lost? After finding the one sheep, the man would come home and rejoice because that which was lost had been found.

Verse 7 says, “I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

Romans 5:8 tells us; But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

God loves us so much that when He saw us lost, He did what was necessary to find us.

Jesus came to earth on a rescue mission!

He left Heaven and became human so that He could relate to us. He experienced everything we experience on this earth, yet He was without sin.

Then He made the ultimate sacrifice and became sin for us on Calvary. He took the penalty for sin—death—so that we wouldn’t have to.

Why did Jesus do this for us?

He did it because He saw His lost sheep wandering far from home.

He did it because He wanted to have a relationship with us.

He did it because He loves us!
