Choose Love

Is there someone you know—or maybe it’s you—who is always holding a grudge? Always carrying a chip on their shoulder?

If you are constantly looking for reasons to be offended, you will always find them.

There will always be something someone says or does that could cause offense and tempt us to hold a grudge. But there is a gap between an action and our reaction.

And we get to choose what we put in that gap.

Proverbs 19:11 (NIV)

“A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”

The devil wants us to fill the gap with accusations and assumptions. He is the accuser.

(Revelation 12:10)

God wants us to fill the gap with love.

Proverbs 17:9 (NIV)

“Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.”

We often excuse our own behavior because of our circumstances while judging others’ behavior based on their character.

This week, when you have an opportunity to take offense or hold a grudge, pause and remember:

Choose to fill the gap with love.
