December 2025 - From the desk of Lisa Chastain

Once a year, we hold a graduation celebration for guests who have completed the Recovery Program, and it is always an incredible reminder of why we do what we do. The room fills with stories of families restored—parents who thought they had lost their child forever to addiction, children who wondered if their mom or dad would ever see themselves as worthy of dignity again. It’s heavy, emotional, and deeply encouraging.
Transformation doesn’t happen all at once—it happens when hope is given room to take root.

When guests come into Recovery, they are often sick and unhealthy. They’re worn— physically, mentally, and emotionally. Their confidence is shattered, so their shoulders droop, and they struggle to meet your eyes when you talk to them.

Within a few weeks, you’ll see some life return to their eyes. They can think more clearly, but they’re still fragile.

Then, over the next several months, their whole personality transforms. There are times I don’t even recognize them—the way they laugh, the way they carry themselves, the comfort they have around others, and the way they look you in the eye. They hold their heads up. They begin to believe they have worth. And years later, when we meet them again, they carry a wisdom, a confidence, and a clarity of mind that can only come from deep healing.

I’ve been reflecting on this transformation—and how it mirrors the heart of why Jesus came. In every encounter Jesus had with someone who was hurting, He restored not just their body but also their mind and their spirit. He gave them truth that replaced lies, hope that replaced fear, and a future that replaced the shame of their past.

He came to save us from ourselves. He brought joy, peace, and a transforming love. We no longer have to be a slave to our brokenness. In Isaiah, He promises beauty for ashes, and joy for mourning, and we see that promise fulfilled every day.

You help make that possible. Through your prayers, your generosity, your belief in what we do — lives are being transformed.

Thank you for giving the gift of wholeness—the gift that doesn’t come in a box.

Thanking God for You,

Lisa Chastain
