TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – As temperatures in Tucson begin to drop, Gospel Rescue Mission (GRM) launched Operation Rescue from the Cold this week. The initiative aims to provide essential refuge for men and women experiencing homelessness.
The cold desert winter poses a significant risk to those without shelter, increasing the chances of illness and hypothermia. GRM encourages anyone facing homelessness or housing insecurity to seek shelter.
“Cold weather is silent but dangerous,” Lisa Chastain, CEO of Gospel Rescue Mission, said. She emphasized that the shelter offers love, grace, dignity, and respect, creating a welcoming environment for all.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, guests will have access to a warm indoor space, hot showers, laundry facilities, and nutritious meals. Additional support includes dry clothing, day beds and activities that restore dignity.
This effort reflects GRM’s summer initiative, Operation Rescue from the Heat, which successfully provided safety and support to thousands. The current focus is on winter protection while continuing GRM’s mission of long-term solutions.
