Guarding the Heart
When our actions don’t align with our beliefs, our brains experience friction known as cognitive dissonance. To resolve this tension, we naturally tend to make excuses to justify our poor behavior.
Have you ever done that?
“I’m a Christian, but I would rather listen to music that uses profanity.”
“I love Jesus, but I don’t see anything wrong with watching shows that speak disrespectfully about God.”
“They are my friends. I know they do things that God wouldn’t approve of, but I’m going to hang out with them anyway.”
Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Guarding our hearts is very important.
What are you allowing into your heart? What are you feeding yourself through your eyes and ears?
What we think about is eventually reflected in what comes out of us. Our thoughts influence our feelings, and our feelings influence our actions.
Luke 6:45 (NKJV) says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
When we sow the Word of God into our hearts and fill our minds with good things, those are the things our lives will begin to produce.
Whatever we continually think about influences the direction our lives will take.
Are you guarding your heart, or are you allowing anything and everything to penetrate it?
