When Addiction Let Go, Faith Took Hold

Herbert

Recovery Guest
Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Herbert had a challenging upbringing. He was the youngest of three boys, being raised by a single father who struggled to make ends meet. Growing up in a neighborhood plagued by gangs and drugs, Herbert found himself caught up in a life of addiction and criminal activities.

Dropping out of school, Herbert became a father at the age of 16, further complicating his already tumultuous life. He spiraled into a cycle of incarceration, probation, and failed attempts at treatment, unable to break free from the grip of his addiction.

However, a pivotal moment came when his relationship with the child’s mother ended due to his substance abuse issues. Scared and desperate for change, Herbert decided to give treatment one more try, this time at Gospel Rescue Mission.

At GRM, Herbert discovered a program that was far more than just a typical rehab. It was a transformative experience that nourished his body, mind, and spirit. The comprehensive support, structure, and resources provided by the program helped him regain stability in his life.

But it was the spiritual aspect of the GRM that truly impacted and healed him. Through the guidance of a spiritual mentor and the teachings of the Bible, he was able to rekindle a relationship with God that he had long neglected.

Herbert began talking to God daily, finding comfort and direction in his renewed faith.

The program’s emphasis on the power of prayer and the love of the divine, helped him make sense of the challenges he had faced.

As Herbert immersed himself in the program, he felt a profound shift within. The once skeptical and resistant man was now embracing the spiritual journey, finding solace and strength in his connection with faith.

GRM had not only provided him with the tools to overcome his addiction, but had also awakened a deep, meaningful relationship with God that would guide him on the path to lasting recovery and personal growth.
