When She Returned in Faith, Everything Changed

Elizabeth grew up in a difficult home environment, facing the challenges of an abusive father while also suffering from a severe case of rheumatic fever, which caused her intense physical pain. As a result, she was introduced to opioid painkillers at a very young age, and this would ultimately lead to a long struggle with addiction. Coping with this addiction left her feeling lost and hopeless for many years.

Throughout the years, Elizabeth experienced periods of sobriety. In 2018, she came to GRM, where she participated in the recovery program, graduating in 2020. However, her struggles with physical health issues, emotional trauma, the challenges of maintaining long-term sobriety, the strain of her pregnancy, and her family circumstances all seemed to contribute to her relapse.

After she and her family realized she needed help again, Elizabeth returned to the GRM in April, bringing her daughter Luna, her main motivation for getting clean with her. At that moment, Elizabeth surrendered her life to the Lord, accepting His salvation and forgiveness. From that day forward, her relationship with God became the foundation upon which she rebuilt her life. “I owe my life to Jesus; I owe everything to Him.” She said.

The tools and support she found through the Gospel Rescue Mission’s recovery program, combined with her newfound faith, empowered Elizabeth to confront the root causes of her addiction and find the strength to overcome them. Though the journey was not an easy one, with setbacks and personal tragedies along the way, Elizabeth’s trust in God remained her constant companion.

Today, Elizabeth embodies the transformative power of faith and the steadfast support of a community that believes in the possibility of redemption. Her story is one of hope, resilience, and the unwavering conviction that with God by her side, she can overcome any obstacle in her path.
