Dangerous Prayers
Psalm 139:23–24
23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Search me, Lord, and know my heart.
Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is deceitful. It will lie to us. There will be times when we think everything is okay, when in reality it is just the opposite. People say, “Follow your heart.” That is not always the best advice. Your heart can deceive you.
A dangerous prayer is to say, “Lord, search my heart. Let it line up with You.”
Lord, test me and know my anxious thoughts.
When anxiety is ruling your thoughts, ask Him why. He will show you.
Lord, see if there is any offensive (sinful) way in me, and lead me in Your way.
What things in my life am I doing that I shouldn’t be? What have I justified as “not really a big deal”? Lord, show me those things and help me follow You.
This week, pray some “dangerous prayers,” examine yourself, and allow the Holy Spirit to change you.
