I am redeemed!

As Christians, we say that a lot. We know that we are redeemed, but what does that really mean?

Redeemed means to buy back, ransom, or reclaim something or someone who has been lost, trapped, or enslaved by paying a specific price.

To Buy Back: The root word refers to a legal market transaction, such as paying a ransom to free a slave or buying back family property.

A Transfer of Ownership: Being redeemed means that you no longer belong to sin, death, or your past. You have been bought back and restored to your rightful owner—God.

Redemption means being bought back and set free from the bondage of sin through the precious price of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.

If we just stop and think about that, it is mind-boggling!

Redemption completely sets us free. Jesus made the ultimate transaction with His blood. He bought us back from the enemy. We were slaves, and now we are free.

We no longer belong to sin, death, or our past. Our past no longer defines us.

The ultimate price has been paid, and we have been restored to our rightful place in the Kingdom of God.

Titus 2:14:

“[Jesus] gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Galatians 5:1:

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

We are who God says we are. We are defined by the blood of Jesus, which has purchased us.

When sin and the ways of the world try to consume us and shackle us again, we can resist because Satan no longer has a hold on us.

We have been redeemed.

We have been set free.

Our past no longer has a hold on us.

We are no longer slaves. We belong to God.
