When Every Door Closed, Hope Opened One

Her path was rocky. A teenage pregnancy, an abortion, and constant struggles with employment due to her mental health. Lori explains that making money and providing for herself was difficult because “I can only work part-time because of my Social Security Disability income.”
Homelessness eventually became her reality. For a year, she moved from shelter to shelter, hoping for a breakthrough. Other places couldn’t help. But then she found Gospel Rescue Mission (GRM).
“GRM helps a lot more than any other place did,” Lori shared. “They actually direct you in the right places to go.” Here, something changed. With the help of a staff member, she found hope.
Her faith remained her anchor. “If you don’t understand that somebody is looking out for you,” she said, “you’re not going to understand that you have an opportunity every time you get knocked down.”
Now, Lori has found a new path. She’s getting housing where she’ll help older adults, a chance to give back.
Her message to others facing hardship? “Stay positive. Someday a door is going to open, and when that door opens, it’s gonna be the best door you have.”
